Articles of note:  a research ranking that relies on publication data

National Taiwan University has released its 2023 ranking of institutions by scientific papers in specific disciplines  – performance is assessed by number of articles, citations and excellence defined by authors’ H-index, high-cited papers and publication in high-impact journals. 

All the usual caveats apply, but as research metrics g,o at least the NTU is not skewed by surveys based on the opinions of self-selecting academics and employers. 

As Angel Calderon wrote last year in Campus Morning Mail, “despite the criticisms that global rankings are irrelevant, pointless, and out of depth, these results reinforce subject areas of strength (and areas of relative weakness) across institutions.

As usual in rankings, Group of Eight institutions predominate but perhaps the stand-out results is five are in the world top 30 for social sciences.
