Appointments and Achievements (17 April)

The Association of Australian Medical Research Institute’s announces new membership of its “renowned” Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Maxine Morand (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre) chairs.

Jennifer Balint becomes dean of Arts at Uni Melbourne. She steps up from head of the school of social and political sciences, starting in July.

Peter Ebeling (Monash U) receives the President’s Award from the International Osteoporosis Foundation.

Llewelyn Hughes (ANU) becomes research chair at the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

Ian O’Connor (ex Griffith VC and former Higher Education Standards Panel chair) will advise the SA Government on the merger of Uni Adelaide and Uni South Australia.

Birgit Loch will leave Uni New England to become ED of Federation Uni’s Institute of Education, Arts and Community, starting June.

Michael McCallum leaves Researchmaster to become co-founder and CEO of hAIgher ed (“working with HE organisations to enable their mission”).

Mark McKenzie (Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association) is the new board chair for Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia.

Kirsten Rose is CSIRO’s new deputy chief executive. It is an internal appointment.

Craig Simmons becomes South Australia’s chief scientist while continuing as PVC Engineering, Science and Environment at Uni Newcastle. He succeeds Caroline McMillen who also came to the post from Uni Newcastle, where she had been vice chancellor.
