RMIT tops interdisciplinary ranking

RMIT University has emerged on top of the latest new ranking from THE, which ranks interdisciplinarity of universities.

The new index assessed the accomplishments of 749 universities worldwide in the areas of interdisciplinary project inputs, processes and outputs.

RMIT was ranked 22 globally, edging out the University of Newcastle at 23 and closely followed by Deakin in 28th place.

MIT, Stanford and the NUS topped the leaderboard worldwide, while the nation with the most tea room interlopers is India, which has 65 universities ranked for interdisciplinarity.

A recent Peking University study found that research that is interdisciplinary is more likely to be cited in policy. The researchers examined more than 489,000 publications relating to and their impact on policy documents relating to COVID 19 lodged in the Overton database, and found interdisciplinary papers were more likely to be cited in almost all fields of policy.
