18,000 files filched from ANU spinoff

Around 18,000 files were exposed in a hack of ANU Enterprise, the University’s wholly-owned but independent research commercialisation arm.

The files were encrypted or exfiltrated by the 3AM Ransomware group and accessed across 4,100 folders, representing 4.54% of ANU Enterprise’s total server. The server operated independently of the ANU IT system, and the University’s system was not breached.

Hackers accessed one folder which contained bank details, names and addresses of 48 subcontractors hired between 2006 and 2008 – and the contractors have been notified.

Hackers accessed personal information of just three ANU Enterprise staff, who have been offered support and reimbursed for associated costs.
The University is reviewing the incident to identify additional security measures to ANU Enterprise systems. No ransom
