The ANZ Society for Cell and Developmental Biology announces its 2023 awards. * president’s medal: Jane Visvader (the MRI formerly known as Walter and Eliza Hall Institute) * emerging leader: Edwina McGlinn (Monash U) * early career: Jessica Greaney (Monash U) * publication: Azelle Hawdon (Monash U), Natalie Bennetti (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute) * image: Julie Moreau (Monash U) * Andrea Usseglio Gaudi (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre).

The big eight superannuation funds, including UniSuper form a new lobby, Super Members Council of Australia.  UniSuper chair Mark Armour is on its board, which is led by former Labor cabinet minister Nicola Roxon.

Tim Bentley is appointed Edith Cowan U inaugural chair in mining work health and safety. He moves from Auckland UT.

Megan Davis (UNSW) is on Time Magazine’s “100 Next” list for 2023, “recognising rising stars shaping the future of their fields.” Professor Davis is director of the university’s Indigenous Law Centre.

Maryanne Dever is appointed DVC E at Western Sydney U. She moves from PVC, Education and Digital at ANU.

Tuguy Esgin joins Curtin U, as Indigenous Engagement dean of the business and law faculty.

The US branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music presents its outstanding book award to two Uni Wollongong academics. The Woody Guthrie Prize goes to geographers Chris Gibson and Andrew Warren for, The Guitar: tracing the grain back to the tree (Uni Chicago Press).

Rauno Parilla is inaugural director of Australian Catholic U’s Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy.
