First Indigenous Knowledges Faculty launches

QUT has made a strong pitch to attract Indigenous students and scholars by establishing Australia’s first Faculty of Indigenous Knowledges and Culture.

Launching in 2024, and taking students in 2025, the Faculty aims to be a high-profile rallying point for University to connect with Indigenous communities and will bring together the University’s research, education and partnerships, working across a wide range of disciplines.

“We recognise the importance of hearing and supporting Indigenous voices in our university and to encourage more students, we need to offer further welcoming spaces of learning and support,” VC Professor Margaret Sheil said.

The new faculty will be QUT’s sixth. An Executive Dean will be recruited next year.
