Appointments and Achievements (13 March)

Patricia Davidson (Uni Wollongong VC) is new chair of the Australia India Chamber of Commerce’s education and training group. “If your business wants to understand ‘How India’ and actually focus on outcomes, then join us,” is the chambers pitch.

The (UK) Institute of Chemical Engineers announces its best journal article award to Uni Melbourne’s Christopher Honig, Shannon Rio and Eduardo Oliveira,  for “A tool for learning: classroom use-cases for generative AI.” 

Lorraine Hammond (Edith Cowan U) is inducted into the Western Australia Women’s Hall of Fame.

Julian Knowles becomes ED, Art and Design at Uni Canberra, moving from Macquarie U.

The Snow Medical Research Foundation slips Uni Queensland and ANU each $8m. At ANU Loic Yengo, from the Institute of Molecular Bioscience is funded to analyse DNA sequences, “with a unique focus on increasing participation of people with diverse ancestries.” At Uni Queensland, Lara Malins will lead a team using naturally occurring chemical compounds as “powerful new therapies for human illnesses.” 

David Thodey (ex Telstra, now chair of Ramsay Health Care) is Uni Sydney’s in-coming chancellor. He will replace Belinda Hutchinson in July. 

Christopher Ziguras is the new director of the Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education at Uni Melbourne. He joined the centre from RMIT last July.
