TEQSA reminder on the need for AI answers

TEQSA have ordered all universities to provide further insights into their approach reducing risks posed by generative AI.

The regulator issued a Request for Information on Monday, requiring a, “credible action plan, oversighted by the appropriate governance mechanisms.”

This is interesting language. Does the regulator think that universities are going to serve up action plans that are less than credible, and who is the arbiter of governance appropriateness?

The RFI is hardly a secret – providers were advised that it was coming in October last year, with responses due by July.

Universities have been beavering away on plans for the past six months or so, but whether their solutions are credible or appropriate to the regulator remains to be seen. A somewhat different take is to consider whether the new approaches are credible and appropriate to students; many of whom are only too willing to demonstrate the ease of evading recent upgrades to assessment security at a number of institutions.
