Appointments & Achievements (17 July)

Alex Hewitt (Uni Tasmania) wins the Cogan Award for the study of eye disease from the  (US) Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Prerana Mehta starts next month as CEO of the Australian Council of Learned Academies. She moves from CSIRO.

Neena Mitter moves from Uni Queensland to Charles Sturt U as DVC Associate, Global Research.

Shortlisted authors for the 2024 National Biography Award include, Ryan Copp (Uni Sydney, on Donald Horne), Catharine Lumby (Uni Sydney, on Frank Moorhouse) and Brigitta Olubas  (UNSW – on Shirley Hazzard).

Alana Piper becomes DVC External Engagement and Partnerships at UTS. She joins from the Australian Financial Review.

Jacob Prehn (Uni Tasmania) receives the Australian Academy of the Humanities’ John Mulvaney Fellowship. He will analyse how Indigenous men perceive, and navigate, Australia’s health system

Alex Stojcevski becomes PVC of Curtin U Singapore, moving from Swinburne U. He starts next month.

Kipling Zubevich becomes CEO of the ANU owned Social Research Centre (creator of the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching. His background is in banking and financial services data management.
