Appointments & Achievements (7 August)

Alan Anderson (Charles Darwin U) wins the 2024 Ecological Society of Australia Gold Medal.

Agnes Bosanquet (Macquarie U) is one of journal Higher Education Research and Development’s three peer-reviewers of the year. The others are Kristin Solli (Oslo Metro U) and Gemma Piercy (Uni Waikato).

Cooperative Research Australia announces its 2024 Innovation Awards. Impact: RMIT and Telstra Health (partners of the Digital Health CRC). Industry-Research Collaboration: Gus Nathan (Uni Adelaide), Industry-Research Collaboration, lifetime achievement: Ros Harvey (The Yield Technology Solutions) and Suresh Bhargava (RMIT).

Steven Greenland becomes Dean of Graduate Studies at Charles Darwin U. It is an internal appointment.

Jocelyn Jones (Edith Cowan U) has funding from Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety Limited. She will lead a multi-university research team on a project, Learning from the stories of young Aboriginal men and adolescents convicted of domestic, family and sexual violence.”

Jonathan Love is the inaugural professorial chair of hydrogen at CQU. It is funded by Stanwell Corporation, “to advance innovation opportunities aligned with Stanwell’s hydrogen and renewable energy ambitions.”

Amy Page is inaugural director of Uni WA’s Centre for Optimisation of Medicines.

The NSW State Government’s announces Patricia Davidson (newly ex VC, U Wollongong) is chair of its International Education Advisory Board. Other appointments include, Ian Aird (English Australia), Craig Carracher (student accommodation provider Scape Australia), David Linke (edtech entrepreneur at EduGrowth), UTS VC Andrew Parfitt and Troy Williams (Independent Tertiary Education Council).

Brajesh Singh (Western Sydney U) wins the Food Research Impact Award from the Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph. 

Clair Sullivan (Uni Queensland) is inaugural chair of the Australian Council of Senior Academic Leaders in Digital Health.

Helena Teede (Monash U) is a joint recipient of the Australian Medical Association’s 2024 Women in Medical Leadership Award. The other is Sarah Whitelaw (Royal Melbourne Hospital).

Kate Torney will lead “Monash U’s ambition to counter misinformation and disinformation” as director of its Constructive Institute Asia Pacific. She moves from CEO of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation.
