Appointments & Achievements (14 August)

Olga Boichak (Uni Sydney) receives the Max Crawford Medal from the Australian Academy of the Humanities. She researches media, data and technologies and digital sovereignty.

Brain injury researcher Melinda Fitzgerald is confirmed as Curtin U DVC R. She has acted since June last year, replacing Chris Moran. 

Kurt Langfeld is incoming Dean of Western Sydney U’s School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Science. He moves from the University of Leeds, in the UK.

Katy McDevitt (Williamson Community Leadership Programme) joins Harvard Business Review’s Advisory Council. 

Science and Technology Australia announces committee appointments, including: 

  • Policy: Thom Dixon (Macquarie U), Kate McGeoch (UNSW), Martin Peeks (UNSW), Vanessa Wong  (Monash U). 
  • EDI: Kate Callaghan (CSIRO), Ayan Dasvarma (Monash U), Kim Dyball (CSIRO), Adrienne Gooden (Southern Cross U) Marc Kvansakul (La Trobe U)
  • Finance, Audit, Risk: Yogita Nath (pharma company Sanofi)

Bjorn Sturmberg is the ACT Emerging Scientist of the Year. He works on clean energy technology at ANU.

Rabin Tuladhar starts as Dean of Engineering and Technology at CQU. He switches from neighbouring James Cook U.

Stephen Weller is incoming COO at QIMR Berghofer MRI. He finished an 11 year term as  Australian Catholic U Chief Operating Officer in March.   

Clare Wright (La Trobe U historian) has a three year term as chair of the National Museum of Australia’s council. Other appointments include Megan Davis (UNSW) and Ann McGrath (UWA).
