Appointments & Achievements (21 August)

Tim Bullard will be CEO of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, as of October. He moves from Tasmania’s DoE.

Former Melbourne mayor Sally Capp becomes a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She will undertake a “program of work” in Business-Economics and the wider university for two years.

Billie Giles-Corti (RMIT emerita) joins the board of the WA Government’s Healthways funding agency. 

Kaye Stacey (Uni Melbourne) receive the (UK) Institute of Mathematics and its Applications Castelnuovo Award for maths education.

Eric Knight has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (People and Operations) at Macquarie University. He moves from a highly successful stint as Executive Dean of Macquarie Business School, where he doubled research income in four years.

The Western Australia Premier’s Science Awards include;

  • Scientist of year: Sharon Parker (Curtin U), Markus Schlaich
  • Mid-career scientist: Morten Eric Allentoft  (Curtin U), Gianina Ravenscroft (UWA)
  • Early-career: Pamela Laird (Telethon Kids Institute), Neil Robinson (UWA)
  • Tertiary STEM educator: Alexandra Yeung (Curtin U)
  • Science engagement: Einstein-First Project (UWA)
  • People’s choice: Sharon Parker (Curtin U)
  • Science hall of fame: Peter Quinn (UWA), Fiona Wood (Fiona Stanley and Perth Children’s hospitals, UWA)
