The positive trajectory for student satisfaction continued in 2023, with the latest QILT data showing 76.7% of UG students were positive about the quality of their educational experience – 8% higher than in the depths of the pandemic.
Peer engagement remains a low point across the sector, with 2 out of every 5 UG students dissatisfied and only 71.2% were happy with student support.
VU was among the big winners from the latest report card, moving up 19 places nationally to take out the top teaching quality ranking for a publicly-funded university, and topping the league table in Victoria.
Vice-Chancellor Adam Shoemaker said the unrelenting focus on teaching quality had paid dividend.
“This is an important turnaround for VU – in 2017, before the implementation of the Block Model we ranked a lowly 40th for Teaching Quality,” he said.
VU also ranked 20% above the national average for peer engagement, but VC Shoemaker said there was still much work to do – hoping for a further bounce in future QILT’s as the model is fine tuned. That is of course, assuming that future QILT reports appear, given this year’s $8 million fiscal haircut for the QILT makers.
