Appointments and Achievements (12 February)

Peta Crew starts as regional manager of Uni SA’s Mount Gambier campus, switching from State Government.

Christopher Goodnow (UNSW) and David Nemazee (Scripps Research Institute, California) jointly win the Crafoord Prize in Polyarthritis. The 6mSEK ($A875,000) award is from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Crafoord Foundation.

Brett Hall becomes GM, Policy at Ai Group’s education and training centre. He moves from the Queensland Government’s trade department.

Paul Fawcett becomes Deputy Dean, Academic at the ANZ School of Government. He was a Uni Melbourne associate professor of public policy. 

Brigadier Troy Francis is the new commandant of the Australian Defence Forces Academy.

“Leading chemistry and forensics researcher,” Claire Lenehan becomes director of Flinders U’s “Factory of the Future, … Australia’s first industrial-scale high-value manufacturing research and accelerator facility.” There was $10m for the project in the 2022 Federal Budget.

Jiawen Li (Uni Adelaide) is one of the four winners of the inaugural Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature (as in the journal). She is an ECR in multimodal imaging and sensing.

Jeff Morrell is inaugural director of the SA Government’s Forestry Centre of Excellence. He returns from Oregon State U. 

Kane Pollard is inaugural chef in residence at Uni Adelaide’s School of Agriculture Food and Wine (the Waite Institute).
