The Greens yesterday introduced a Bill to Federal Parliament seeking to force universities to cut ties with what it describes as ‘dirty industries’.

The Bill proposes that Universities must “disclose and divest from any partnerships with dirty industries, including weapons manufacturers, gambling, fossil fuel and tobacco companies.”

The Party proudly spruiked that 6,000 students across 15 universities voted ‘overwhelmingly in favour of divestment.” Views of the other 1.4 million or so students who didn’t respond to the survey are unknown.

Anyone wondering why universities are under attack by most major parties right now should join the conversation at the Future Campus Brand Australia 2025 mini-conference in Canberra on 24 February – steps to reclaim the sector’s social licence have rarely been more critical.
