Appointments and Achievements (19 March)

Christhina Candido (Uni Melbourne)is educator of the year for the International WELL Building institute, (“the world’s leading healthy building certification programme”).

Dimitrios Georgakopoulos becomes director of the new ARC funded Digital Manufacturing Hub, at Swinburne U. It was an internal appointment.

Omid Ghasemi (UNSW) receives the Australian Academy of Science’s Gladstone Award, to support research on behavioural responses to climate change.

Jelina Haines (Uni SA) receives the South Australian Governor’s Individual Achievement in Multiculturalism award.

Lee Hicken moves from Microsoft to lead the National AI Centre, (in Ed Husic’s industry and science portfolio, to help SMEs). 

Caroline Horner is acting chair of the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board. AMRAB advises the minister on Medical Research Future Fund spending, She replaces inaugural chair Ian Frazer. Professor Horner will act for a specified three months. She is also chair of the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Catriona Jackson is appointed editor of public affairs website Pearls and Irritations. She was previously CEO of Universities Australia.

Xanthe Mallet joins CQU’s Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research. She moves from Uni Newcastle.

Andrew Rohl is incoming interim Director of the National Computational Infrastructure. He moves from the ARC Centre for Transforming Maintenance through Data Science at Curtin University.
