Tens of thousands of students and thousands of staff at the University of Western Australia had to abandon their favourite passwords on the weekend, following a major hacking incident.
All staff and students were required to reset their passwords after a significant security breach was detected on Saturday night, stealing the passwords of an unspecified number of people from the university community.
The University is still investigating the breach, but says there is no indication any other data was stolen in the cyber heist.
The University declined to reveal how many passwords had been stolen, how the breach was detected, any insights as to who was responsible, or why the breach occurred.
