​Australian Research Data Commons announces its 2025 research software prize goes to the dartR team for its “complex genomic data analysis” software. dartR is a partnership of people from CSIRO, Diversity Arrays Technology and Uni Canberra.

Jonathan Bullen returns to Curtin U to become Inaugural DVC Indigenous. He left last year for that role at Griffith U.

Tasmanian Liberal senator Claire Chandler joins the Opposition frontbench as science and cybersecurity spokesperson. Her appointment is part of shuffle following the demotion of Jacinta Nampijinpa Price. This makes Tasmania the heartland for conservative thinking on HE and research. Another Tasmanian Liberal, Senator Jonno Duniam is education and early learning shadow.

Three early career researchers are selected to pitch their science at the Falling Walls Summit in Berlin this November; Mabel Day (Uni Adelaide) – “forever chemicals”, Auriane Drack (Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute) – heart failure, Khoi Nguyen (Burnett IMR) – anti- malarial discovery.

The History Council of NSW announces its 2025 awards. Multicultural History: Tim Breidis (PhD, Uni Sydney). Public History: Jane Curtis (podcaster). Max Kelly Award: Ruby Ekkel (ANU). Regional History: Zoe Smith (ANU).

Palliative Care Australia’s 2025 national awards include:

Alison Bowers (emerging researcher) – QUT, Margaret O’Connor (lifetime achievement) – Monash U, Jennifer Philip (innovation) – Uni Melbourne, Priyanka Vandersman (emerging leader) – Flinders U.

Study-support provide Studiosity announces appointments. Alistair Flett moves from Nine Entertainment to become inaugural chief financial and strategy head. Greg Hodgson-Fopp comes from Atlassian to be chief of product. Troy Burnett is the new VP-GM for North America, leaving student engagement portal edtech, Pathify.
