​State Government agency Breakthrough Victoria announces $150,000 start-up fellowships, to help students and graduates “on their entrepreneurial journey.” Michelle Chen (RMIT grad), “video games to transform mental health literacy.” Noor E Karishma Shaik (Uni Melbourne) camera replacing biopsy to detect skin cancer. Mohammad Haft Tananian (Monash U), non-invasive imaging for IVF.

Martin Green (UNSW) is awarded the Faraday Medal from the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology. Professor Green has led the world in developing solar energy technology for 40 years.

Simon Kupec is confirmed as COO at Monash U. He joined the university as head of community safety in 2018.

Paul Mazerolle will start as Uni Southern Queensland’s VC in March, returning from Canada, where he is VC of the University of New Brunswick.

Kathryn North is new chair of the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board, which sets priorities for the Medical Research Future Fund.

Aaron Quigley is ANU’s new dean of the College of Systems and Society, moving from CSIRO.

Retina Australia appoints Michael Kalloniatis (Uni Houston, UNSW and Deakin U) to its Hall of Fame. Sena Gocuk (Centre for Eye Research Australia, Uni Melbourne) is young scientist of the year.

David Turvey becomes ED of the (interim) Australia Tertiary Education Commission replacing Danielle Donegan, who moves to DoE.

The WA Government announces its 2025 allied health award winners, including;

Glenda Kickett (Aboriginal allied health) Uni WA, Ivan Lin (researcher) Uni WA, Lindi Pelkowitz (educator) Uni WA, Robert Schultz (researcher) Royal Perth Hospital
