Chisolm Institute has been awarded $10m over three years to expand professional development for TAFE teachers.
While debate continues over whether teaching qualifications are required in the HE sector, TAFE teachers are required to have at least a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
The new funding deal, with $5 million each from the Victorian and Federal Governments, will fund a professional development academy offering professional development programs to thousands of TAFE teachers across the State.
Chisolm has already piloted a Professional Educator College and Educator Passport to track teaching credentials, and the curriculum developed by the new academy will be rolled out nationally.
The Funding deal is part of the National Skills Agreement forged between State, Territory and Commonwealth Ministers.
Federal Minister for Skills and Training Andrew Giles said he hoped the academy would encourage more people to build a career teaching in TAFE.
“Today is about saying thank you to those wonderful TAFE teachers and trainers, and saying we are as committed to you as you are to your profession and to your students,” Mr Giles said.
