In an innovative fellowship program two Ukrainian academics will be embedded for short fellowships in the Arts and Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Sydney next year.
After co-authoring a range of insightful papers on AI and the impact of war on academia, Dr Natalia Tsybuliak from Berdyansk State Pedagogical University will work alongside U Syd’s Dr Michelle Peterie to analyse the adaptation of universities and academic communities to prolonged wartime disruption.
In addition the University of Groningen’s Dr Nataliia Laba will work with U Syd’s Dr Olga Boichack to look at how the use of AI imagery impacts public engagement with the Ukraine-Russia war, now into its fifth year.
While the title might be cumbersome (SSSHARC 2027 Visiting Fellowships Ukrainian Studies Fellowship doesn't exactly roll off the tongue); the model of providing a limited pool of funding and a program that delivers quick, tangible projects in collaborations between Australian and Ukrainian academics is a proactive, community-engaged initiative, funded by the Ukrainian community in Australia.
Both fellowships will occur in 2027, with opportunities to engage in workshops and seminars.
