Barney Glover revealed all the Commission wants the post-school education community to know about on Friday.
The Interim Chief Commissioner announced “strong momentum and tangible progress” including:
- MBCs (as in mission-based compacts): “sector representatives” were briefed on principles of the new approach in February and guidance materials for 2027 compacts will be with providers “soon.”
- The SSP (that’s the statement of strategic priorities). Even though it is only interim, it will “guide” first compact discussions with providers “and inform stakeholders and the general public about current challenges and opportunities.” An extensive SSP is in the works
- An EPPHE report (Enhancing Professional Practice in Higher Education). There are workshops on a possible framework and ATEC will advise the Minister
- The Better Regulation Working Group has already met, to make everything more efficient “while continuing to assure quality and confidence”
- Establishment of the TSAC (Tertiary System Advisory Council)
- and the National Credit Recognition Framework.
Professor Glover is also a member of the Antisemitism Education Taskforce.
Plus, there have been meetings, many, many meetings it appears, with; universities, peak bodies, unions, tertiary admission centres, skills and workforce ministers, the ARC, TEQSA and TAFEs.
And ATEC is just getting started, “preparing for transition to full statutory operations.”
But there was no mention of Stephen Duckett’s work on the efficient cost of HE by discipline and student cohorts – perhaps the Commission has not come up with an acronym yet.
