Emma Johnston has won the keys to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office at the University of Melbourne, and will take over the helm from Duncan Maskell in February 2025. Professor Johnston is currently DVC(R) at the University of Sydney.

Megan Berghuis becomes Director of the State Library of South Australia. She moves from being a board member.

DASSH (as in the Australasian Council of Deans of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities) announces its new executive.

Heather Zwicker (Uni Queensland) steps up from member to become president. Cynthia White (Massey U) does the same to be VP.

Eucalypt Australia’s 2035 Dahl Fellows are, Jessica Harwood (Guardian cartoonist) for a comic art education project on conservation. Peter McHugh (forester) to write an e-book on Victoria’s native eucalypts and bushfire heritage. Vicky Shukuroglou (artist and researcher ) who will produce a guide to the 35 indigenous eucalypts in the Melbourne region

Ex Flinders U DVC R Robert Saint becomes presiding board member of the South Australia Museum. The appointment follows a premier’s department review which rejected planned cost cutting.

Lobby group Science and Technology Australia announces members of its new Bench to Boardroom committee, Jonathan Lacey (Cruxes Innovation), Ingrid Marsh (Cicada Innovations), Stephen Rodda (UNSW), Veena Sahajwalla (UNSW), Matt Wenham (Royal Society of Victoria). They join co-chairs from STA Mark Hutchinson and Jas Chambers.

Yolande Strengers becomes research director of the Monash U Energy Institute, it’s an internal university appointment.

Michael Tobar (UWA) wins the Massey Medal from the Australian Institute of Physics.
